Martin Rüttimann was born into a musical family where both parents were Suzuki® Method teachers and founded the first Suzuki school in Switzerland. He studied the violin with Andras Santora and later with Detlef Hahn (London, Oslo), and took master classes with Alexandre Dubach, Franco Gulli, Ljerko Spiller and Koji Toyoda.
After completing his European Suzuki Association (ESA) Level 5 Suzuki teacher training with Christophe Bossuat, he went to Matsumoto, Japan, as well as the United States, Canada and various places in Europe to observe teacher training courses. In 2008, he became an ESA Suzuki teacher trainer and was appointed a teacher trainer for the Asia Region Suzuki Organization in 2014.
Frequently invited as a guest teacher, Martin has taught at workshops all over Europe as well as in Taiwan and South Africa. He was a faculty member at the 16th Suzuki Method World Convention 2013 in Matsumoto and at the Asian Suzuki Conference 2014 in Taipei. In 2015, Martin organized the 10th European Suzuki Convention in Davos, Switzerland, attended by more than 700 children from Europe, Japan, Australia and the United States.
Since 2005, Martin has been president of the Swiss Suzuki Institute. In 2011, he was elected Chairman of the ESA and represents the ESA on the board of the International Suzuki Association (ISA).
